Breast Augmentation

Breast AugmentationIf you are unhappy with your breast size, Dr. McHugh can perform breast augmentation, which can enlarge your breasts through the placement of implants. While breast augmentation cannot correct sagging breasts, it can help restore breast volume and result in better symmetry if they vary in size or shape.

Dr. McHugh will meet with you to determine the extent of the surgery based on your desired results. After discussing your goals with you, he will go over the options you have for your case, as well as any potential risks that come with the surgery and potential outcomes from having breast augmentation. As always, Dr. McHugh will answer any questions and address any concerns you may have.

Good candidates for breast augmentation should be in good general health, non-smokers and have realistic expectations as to what the surgery will do for their self-image. Dr. McHugh offers MemoryGel™ implants for breast augmentation. Over one million women have this type of implant, which feels more like a woman’s natural breast tissue.

After your surgery, Dr. McHugh will give you specific instructions to follow. You may experience swelling and discomfort following the surgery; this is common and temporary. The initial wounds make take up to 10 days to heal, while full healing should be complete within 6 weeks. While you will see results immediately, the final outcome will slowly appear over the following weeks as the swelling minimizes and the shape and size resolve.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Is breast augmentation a painful procedure?
The amount of pain or discomfort one experiences with breast augmentation is dependent upon the individual. Many women will feel soreness for the first few days following the procedure. Most women are usually able to resume normal activities within three to four days after the procedure. Breasts may be swollen or sensitive to touch for the next month or more, but generally, this is minimal.
  2. What are the risks involved with breast augmentation?
Since this is a surgical procedure, there is always a risk of complications. Some complications may include infection, shifting or deflation. Capsular contracture, where the scar tissue surrounding the implant tightens, is also a common complication. Dr. McHugh will go over all of the risks or complications associated with breast augmentation with you, so you may make the best decision possible.
  3. Can I still breast-feed after having breast augmentation?
