Carbon Dioxide Laser Resurfacing

CO2 (carbon dioxide)CO2 (carbon dioxide) laser resurfacing is effective for reducing fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and mouth. The procedure can also be used to flatten scars and improve uneven skin pigmentation.

A CO2 laser actually vaporizes damaged skin tissue by delivering pulses of high-energy laser light. The laser penetrates one layer of the skin at a time, allowing gentle removal of the surface. As the treated area heals, new skin cells develop, revealing smoother, firmer, more attractive skin on the surface.

Performed under local or general anesthesia, the procedure generally lasts between 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the size of the treated area. Risk of scarring is low. Patients may experience redness and mild swelling following treatment. Following recovery, patients should see results within 2-3 months.

For more information on CO2 laser resurfacing, contact our office to schedule an appointment with Dr. McHugh. We are convenient to Houston residents and the surrounding communities.
