BOTOX

BotoxMany are turning to BOTOX to reduce moderate to severe frown lines between their brows, forehead wrinkles and crow's feet. Simple and nonsurgical, the treatment is administered by a trained physician, such as Dr. McHugh, in patients ranging in age from 18 to 65. BOTOX decreases the movement of the muscles in these trouble areas, temporarily smoothing them for up to four months.

Approved by the FDA in 2002, BOTOX consists of a few small injections of the purified protein into the muscles to temporarily reduce the lines. The procedure is minimally invasive, requires no recovery time and can be completed in about 10 minutes. Since results are temporary, many patients choose to begin a treatment schedule to maintain results.

Although side effects are generally minimal, they can include temporary drooping of the eyelid, nausea, headache and respiratory infection.

Dr. McHugh can treat with BOTOX in his Houston, TX office. Contact us today to schedule an appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is BOTOX?
BOTOX Cosmetic is also known as Botulinum Toxin Type A and is a purified protein safely administered in small doses to temporarily reduce wrinkles and frown lines.
  2. How does BOTOX work?
BOTOX helps to decrease the muscle movement that causes wrinkles. These lines temporarily disappear when the muscles cannot contract.
  3. Will BOTOX injections hurt?
Some may experience minor discomfort as BOTOX is administered through a very tiny needle. Many patients report a feeling similar to that of a bug bite when BOTOX is administered.
  4. Will the injections leave scars?
No, BOTOX injections do not leave any scars whatsoever.
  5. How long does it normally take to start seeing results?
You should begin seeing results in about three days after the injection. Full results will be visible in one to two weeks.
  6. How long do the results last?
The results will generally last about three to four months, so many choose to begin a treatment schedule to maintain their results.
  7. What happens if I stop BOTOX injections?
If you choose to stop a regular schedule of BOTOX treatments, the lines and wrinkles that were being treated will eventually regress back to how they looked before treatment was started.
  8. Is Dr. McHugh qualified to administer BOTOX?
Yes! Dr. McHugh, like many other plastic surgeons, is fully qualified and experienced in administering BOTOX.

Restylane®

RestylaneIf you’re looking at improving the appearance of your skin, Restylane may be the option for you. Restylane is a dermal filler consisting of hyaluronic acid, which naturally exists in the body, that aids in correcting facial wrinkles. Widely used around the world, Restylane yields long-lasting results, normally up to six months. Dr. McHugh uses an extremely fine needle to inject small amounts of the filler into the skin, which aids in patient comfort throughout the procedure. The results are almost immediate! Free of animal proteins, Restylane is a safe and easy way to bring back your skin’s healthy and beautiful appearance.

Restylane is now also used in lip augmentation to create fuller lips and a more defined mouth and in facial contouring to give your face a fuller look.

As a natural dermal filler, Restylane requires no skin testing prior to treatment. And since the results are not permanent, this treatment allows you, the patient, to take control of your appearance.

Radiesse™

RadiesseRadiesse™ is the newest non-surgical facial contouring filler that delivers an immediate, longer lasting result.  Whether you’re longing to reverse the common signs of aging or addressing a health issue that otherwise would require an invasive treatment, you have more options in looking and feeling better with Radiesse™. Developed with safety and longevity in mind, Radiesse™ is a new generation injectable filler that offers superior versatility for both cosmetic and reconstructive use without surgery. What sets Radiesse apart from other dermal fillers? The answer is in its durability, longevity and versatility.

Following the treatment, you should expect a bruise at the injection site and you may experience minimal to moderate swelling. Edema causes a hardness or firmness that can be felt in the tissue for 5-7 days.

Results will not become visible until swelling subsides, generally 5-7 days.

How does Radiesse Work?
Radiesse™ works with your body, below the skin's surface. Tiny calcium-based microspheres form a "scaffold" to support and stimulate the growth of your own collagen. Over time, the calcium-based microspheres gradually break down and are safely absorbed by your body. Radiesse™ does more than just temporarily fill-in facial folds and wrinkles-it can restore facial volume for the youthful look you want.

Juvéderm & Juvéderm Ultra

JuvédermWhat is Juvéderm™
Juvéderm™ injectable gel is a smooth gel filler your doctor eases under your skin to instantly smooth out those wrinkles or folds that look like parenthesis along the side of your nose and mouth. Results aren't just instant, they're so smooth and natural, everyone will notice, but no one will know.

Your doctor or healthcare professional can tell you which Juvéderm™ formulation is right for you: Juvéderm™ Ultra injectable gel, optimally formulated for versatility in contouring and volumizing wrinkles and folds, or Juvéderm™ Ultra Plus, a robust formulation for volumizing and correcting deeper wrinkles and folds. Look smooth and natural with Juvéderm™ injectable gel.

What makes Juvéderm™ different?
Juvéderm™ injectable gel is produced through Hylacross™ technology, creating a high degree of cross-linking and promoting duration for up to 6 months or longer.

Hylacross™ technology results in a smooth consistency gel, which is a primary factor in the long-lasting smooth, natural look and feel that is a hallmark of Juvéderm™ wrinkle correction.

How long does treatment with Juvéderm™ injectable gel take?
It generally takes about 30 to 45 minutes for a consultation and treatment.

What should I expect following the procedure?
Within the first 24 hours, you should avoid strenuous exercise, extensive sun or heat exposure and alcoholic beverages. Exposure to any of the above may cause temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection sites. If there is swelling, you may need to place an ice pack over the swollen area. You should ask your physician when makeup may be applied after your treatment.

How long does Juvéderm™ injectable gel last?
Treatment with Juvéderm™ injectable gel lasts up to 6 months or longer.
